About

My name is Alysa Loring and I am the owner and operator of Bleeding Pen Editing. I have 20 years of professional and pro-bono experience editing a variety of projects, including: academic publications (e.g., peer reviewed journal articles, book chapters, fact sheets), conference proceedings, children’s books, K-12 educational materials, and large-scale international science documents. I have consulted with individuals and businesses to improve the communication of their work (e.g., as presented in public talks, essays, and op-eds) and to translate and edit materials for internal memos, instruction manuals, and personnel files. I have edited and page-set printed and web-based materials for multiple international science conferences, for such organizations as the American Fisheries Society (Alaska Chapter), the International Comparative Rural Policy Studies (ICRPS) program, and the Arctic Research Consortium of the U.S. (ARCUS).

As well, I have experience as a writing instructor and tutor and have worked with and taught students of all ages and levels—from middle and high school through graduate-level university students. As an instructor, I guide my students to develop a strong voice using concise, active language. I have professional training and experience as an editor, writer, researcher, and educator.

I hold a bachelor’s degree in English and French, a Master of Arts in cultural anthropology, and a Master of Education in secondary education. My work has afforded me the opportunity to work with authors, scientists, educators, students, Elders, culture-bearers, and knowledge-keepers from many parts of Alaska and Hawai’i, as well as education, policy, and climate researchers from around the world.

When I am not wordsmithing I can be found enjoying the outdoors with my daughter, husband, and dog, practicing yoga, or creating art.

I am always interested in new opportunities and look forward to learning more about your editing needs! Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
